Final public hearing on coal-fired plant in southwestern Kansas slated for Oct. 25
People on either side of the question whether to build the 895-megawatt unit in southwestern Kansas will speak Monday, Oct. 25, during the final public hearing conducted by the Kansas Department of Health on the project’s permit.
The meeting, which starts at 2 p.m. at the Capitol Plaza and Convention Center in Topeka, comes almost exactly three years after the initial project was denied, which caused shock waves through Kansas politics that were felt worldwide. Continue reading
GPACE Comments and Questions To Tri-State Generation & Transmission
Tri-State is the large, Colorado-based utility that will own almost all of the proposed Sunflower Electric Holcomb coal plant, and the electricity produced by it. In response to an RFP for baseload power by Tri-State Sunflower abandoned its already-permitted Sand Sage project. As of December 2009, Tri-State had provided direct payments to Sunflower of over $51 million. Continue reading
