Winds of Change

AWEA, BlueGreen Alliance, United Steelworkers: Winds of Change

Keeping in mind that Kansas has the second-best accessible wind resource in the nation (and produces virtually no utility-grade coal), this report provides a snapshot of the huge economic benefits related to the booming wind energy industry.

While no single fuel source is a silver-bullet for energy demand or job creation and economic development, Kansas stands to reap huge gains because we have both the raw resource (creating jobs and revenue related to energy production), and the manufacturing and labor base (creating jobs and revenue related to products and services required by the industry).

Kansas lags behind many other states, even in our region, in terms of wind energy production and related manufacturing, but the good news is that the potential of our wind resource means we can make up a lot of that ground…but not if we choose instead to invest in out-dated, polluting, and imported coal.
