Clean Power Now Hits Lawsuits by Big Coal Funded Opposition to Cape Wind

Press Release from Clean Power Now

HYANNIS, MA – May 14 – The following is a statement from Clean Power Now Executive Director Barbara Hill:

“The opponents of America’s first offshore wind farm are threatening even more lawsuits to delay the Cape Wind project. Big coal keeps fighting this important clean energy project and spreading false information about Cape Wind, but keep in mind who’s behind these maneuvers.

“As the wind farm moves forward after extensive environmental review, it is important that the public remember that the group that opposes Cape Wind, ‘The Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound’ (APNS), gets a major part of its funding from a company -Oxbow Corporation- that makes money from operating coal mines on public land and by selling waste coal and waste oil products.

“It is equally important for the public to know that APNS has a long history of misleading the public on Cape Wind, just as they’re now using scare tactics against the power purchase contract that Cape Wind has just signed.

“The vast majority of citizens in Massachusetts, including on Cape Cod and the Islands, support Cape Wind. We realize that it costs money to build an offshore wind farm to harness clean wind power, but once it’s up and running, it will provide stable-priced clean power that will create Cape based jobs operating this wind farm for years to come.”
